When
a PAC Regional Association or individual member(s) organise an event on behalf
of the Club for the benefit of young people, the PAC advises the organiser to
follow these recommendations:
Enlist the help
of an NFA Angling Coach (contact 01283 734735 for details of nearest coach).
Ideally
all helpers should complete a personal disclosure form (only available directly
from the NFA or the PAC Secretary) and return to the NFA lead signatory for processing.
This is not a legal requirement at the moment but all volunteers representing
PAC must carryout this task. There is no charge for this disclosure and processing
can take about two weeks. A disclosure can be used for more than one event, and
lasts for about six months. Contact PAC Secretary for details about this form
at secretary@pacgb.co.uk
or see Pikelines for Secretary's address. For Regions in Scotland,
when applying for disclosure, the procedure is different than the rest of the
UK. Free disclosure applications for volunteers are made via the Central Registered
Body for Scotland (CRBS) - telephone (01786) 849777 for a form.
Plan
your event's sessions and produce written information, including information for
all taking part on what is required by the participants, such as clothing, food
and drink, equipment etc.
Seek parental consent
allowing the child to attend your event on the form provided, well in advance
of any activity. This form also includes medical information about the child that
the organiser and First Aider needs to be aware of. Provide information for parents
about the day's event and expectations and seek their involvement if possible
on the day. Gain consent for photographs.
Follow
the Angling Coaches Code of Conduct.
Carry out
a Risk Assessment of the venue and area to be used during the event. Record on
the form provided and brief all who will attend the event, pointing out any hazards
and procedures. This is a requirement for the PAC's insurance cover.
Provide
First Aid cover and a suitable First Aid kit for emergencies.
Do
not put yourself or helpers in a position where you could be suspected or accused
of physical or sexual abuse of any young person associated with your events. Always
coach with a second adult (parent) present. Never be out of their sight. The key
point is ensuring that coaches and helpers are never on their own with young people
(this protects the young people and the coaches and helpers). If you need to physically
support an angler during part of a session, ensure that all involved understand
the need for such activities.
Do not take any
inappropriate photographs or film footage of young or disabled persons in vulnerable
positions. Advise parents and participants that photographs will be taken at the
event. Ensure you have parental permission to take photographs and video footage
of the individuals concerned (via the consent form). Seek parental permission
to use any images or photographs taken, in magazines, journals and on websites.
